Many anglers are bitten by the catfish bug and become lifelong enthusiasts. The type of bait is a critical element in catfishing, so many anglers develop their own and sometimes guard their formulas carefully.

    Difficulty: Moderately Easy

    Things You’ll Need:

    • 1 1/2 cup chicken livers 1/4 cup flour 2 to 3 tbsp. garlic salt 1 large egg 2 tsp. Jello (strawberry) 1 sardine with oil
    • 1 1/2 cup chicken livers
    • 1/4 cup flour
    • 2 to 3 tbsp. garlic salt
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 tsp. Jello (strawberry)
    • 1 sardine with oil

    Instructions

    Step 1

Place the chicken livers into a blender and pulse until somewhat broken down but not completely liquid. Use the pulse feature to avoid breaking the livers down to a liquid state.

    Step 2

Add the egg, sardine with oil, and garlic to the livers and continue to pulse the ingredients to mix. Once again, do not completely liquify the mixture at this point.

    Step 3

Add the flour and jello powder to the mixture and this time completely blend the ingredients until the mixture is liquified.

    Step 4

Transfer the livers into a container, which has a tight-fitting lid. Tighten the lid securely and place the livers in a warm area for at least 48 hours.

    Step 5

Remove the container, making sure to not open until you are outside. This is a stinkbait recipe, so the odor from the jar will be very powerful once the lid is removed. Use the mixture on marshmallows, baits, or bait holders to attract catfish.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Allow the mixture to thoroughly age. Remember, catfish are bottom-feeders and are attracted to rotting and smelly objects.

    • Use gloves when handling the mixture and make sure to wash hands thoroughly since this is raw chicken.
