Belize, formerly known as British Honduras, is a small Central American country wedged in between Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Guatemala and Honduras. Belize draws thousands each year to blue waters protected by the second-largest barrier reef in the world. You can fish from a kayak for Spanish jack, mackerel, tarpon, barracuda and other fish.

    Bite Me Fishing Adventures

Bite Me, based on Ambergris Caye, offers three different fishing options, including one designed or do-it-yourself types. The kayak fishing trip for the do-it-yourself folks uses Freedom Hawk 14 fishing kayaks, which are so stable that you can stand on them without fear of flipping or turning over. Bite Me rents kayaks for 24 hours, and can deliver up to four kayaks to your hotel or beach. Bite Me also assists with arranging proper fishing licenses, gives advice for bait and tackle use, and offers maps to where the fish are striking.

    Slickrock Adventures

Slickrock Adventures runs tours and trips to Belize each year. Its base of operations in Belize on Long Caye is a private island for Slickrock Guests only. Kayak fishing tours use Ride 135 and Tarpon 160i by Wilderness Systems. These boats are specially designed for kayak fishing and have sponsons for stability, rod holders and fish holds. The guides at Slickrock assist with proper licenses and know where the fish are hitting. Bait, tackle and fishing gear is included in the tour fee. Bonefish is the most common catch; a school of bonefish lives on the far end of the private island.

    Island Expeditions

Island Expeditions offers kayak fishing tours as part of its kayak tours. You fish from the stable double sea kayaks used to go from caye to caye and camp to camp. You can arrange base camp tours and deluxe lodge tours with day trips spent kayak fishing. Island Expeditions arranges for fishing licenses and includes gear and tackle as part of the tour fees. Spanish jack and bonefish are the most common catch.
